Astronauts diet is not exclusive to the “men of Space”, this plan was nicknamed in the late 60s because it was a healthy diet implemented by the N.A.S.A. for all those who worked on space missions. The staff was faced with ongoing stress and the plan was designed to avoid gastric problems. As for astronauts to speak, they had to recover the maximum energy along with intensive training.

The rules of the  astronauts diet

The system of astronauts is based on simple rules:

Drink at least 2 liters of water a day (in the form of coffee or infusions if desired);

Do not use oil, butter or margarine;

No sugar in any form. Possibly artificial sweeteners;

Eat neither more nor less than the indicated amounts;

Do not substitute one food for another.

The arrangements 13 days. In case of renewal, let two weeks.

A typical week of astronauts plan

MONDAY

Breakfast: coffee.

Lunch: 3 boiled eggs; a tomato.

Dinner: 1 grilled filet (200 g); a green salad.

TUESDAY

Breakfast: coffee or tea.

Lunch: 1 grilled beef tenderloin (200 g); a green salad.

Dinner: York ham fat (150 g); 1 skimmed yogurt.

WEDNESDAY

Breakfast: coffee or tea; 1 toasted bread.

Lunch: Tomato salad and celery. 1 tangerine or orange.

Dinner: 2 boiled eggs; defatted cooked ham (100 g); green salad.

THURSDAY

Breakfast: coffee or tea; 1 toasted bread.

Lunch: 1 boiled egg; 3 grated carrots; defatted cooked ham (150 g).

Dinner: fruit salad; 1 skimmed yogurt.

FRIDAY

Breakfast: coffee or tea; 1 toasted bread.

Lunch: fish cooked with steam (200 g); 1 tomato.

Dinner: 1 grilled beef tenderloin (250 g).

SATURDAY

Breakfast: coffee or tea; 1 toasted bread.

Lunch: 1/4 chicken (cooked without skin, with lemon); green salad.

Dinner: 2 boiled eggs; a bowl of grated carrots.

SUNDAY

Breakfast: coffee or tea.

Lunch: 1 grilled beef tenderloin (250 g); 1 orange.

Dinner: any previous dinners.

Note :

This  astronauts diet is very low calorie, it is a priori difficult to follow and has exhibited deficiencies and cravings.
