After four weeks the researchers measured the levels of MDA, a marker of oxidative stress and have found that the use of the contraceptive pill increased the production of free radicals by weakening our natural antioxidant defenses, particularly by reducing the production of glutathione .
For researchers that oxidative stress may increase the risk of cardiovascular problems and their study shows that supplementation with vitamin C and E can restore our natural antioxidant defenses.
