Whether it’s beyond your budget or you’re short on space, there can be an array of reasons for not owning a cappuccino machine.

A cappuccino machine is one of those one-task kitchen gadgets that usually end up just taking up space in your kitchen. Coffee may be an integral part of your daily routine, but it may not be enough to warrant owning a cappuccino machine.

As a result, you usually turn to local cafés and popular coffeehouses when you crave a cappuccino or a latté. More often than not, you end up questioning the price of the simple milk and coffee beverages charged by these coffeehouses.

Or it may just so happen that you’re simply unwilling to step out of the comfort of your house to nurse your cappuccino craving. Making homemade cappuccino is an enticing idea during such times. If your attempts have previously been thwarted by the absence of that ever-elusive milk foam, then shed your worry because frothing up the milk is easier than you can imagine.

Here are two ways you can make cappuccino at home in 5 minutes without a machine.

Method 1: Using Brewed Coffee

Things you’ll need:

  • Brewed coffee – ¼ cup
  • Whole milk, warmed – ½ cup
  • Cinnamon powder – a pinch

Step 1. Foam up the milk by whisking it

Using a hand-held wire whisk, whisk ½ cup of warm milk to make it frothy. It may take a couple or more minutes of continuous whisking. Use an electric whisk rather than the regular one if you’re not good at whisking.

You’ll notice that as the milk turns to foam, it expands in volume. After you’re done, swirl the milk jug a little and give it a little tap on the counter. This gets rid of the big bubbles and makes the foam dense.

Step 2. Pour brewed coffee into a cup

Pour ¼ cup of hot brewed coffee into your coffee cup. Sweeten the coffee before pouring it into the cup. You may also stir in some powdered sugar after you pour the coffee into the cup.

Step 3. Add the foamy milk

Now, pour in the whisked milk, foam and all. The coffee will rise to a frothy glory.

Step 4. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder

Now before you get too hasty, give it a final touch by sprinkling a little cinnamon powder on top.

As you sip on this frothy heaven, think about the cappuccino variations you’d like to try the next time.

Method 2: Using Instant Coffee

Things you’ll need:

  • Hot water – ¼ cup
  • Whole milk, warmed – ½ cup
  • Instant coffee – 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon powder – a pinch

Step 1. Shake the milk to foam it up

Another way to froth up the milk is to use a shaker. Pour ½ cup of the warmed up milk into the shaker. Close the lid and get to the shaking. A few minutes of shaking should give you enough foam. Tap the shaker on the counter a little to pop the bigger bubbles and condense the foam.

Step 2. Put instant coffee and sugar into a cup

Measure 1 teaspoon each of instant coffee and powdered sugar and put them into your coffee cup.

Step 3. Add the hot water

Pour in ¼ cup of hot water and stir well.

Step 4. Pour in the milk and foam

Now, pour in the milk from the shaker, followed by the foam.

Step 5. Top it with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder

Top off this frothy delight with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder.

Chances are once you start liking this homemade version of foamy cappuccino, you’ll want to serve it up to your family and friends. You can also experiment with caramel and chocolate to make it more interesting.
